Annulment

For those interested in seeking an annulment of a previous marriage in order to remarry in the Catholic Church or to seek a Church blessing of a present marriage, please make an appointment with one of our priests or our Pastoral Associate, Kathy Hasty, by calling the Parish Office at 248.693-0440.

We will meet with you and explain the meaning of an annulment in light of the Church's view of marriage, possible grounds for an annulment, and the process involved. We will also provide instructions for preparing your annulment application, and give assistance as needed throughout the process.

Since this process is funded through the Archdiocesan Catholic Services Appeal, there is no cost to you.

Are you divorced and wondering about the annulment process?
Do you have relatives or friends going through the annulment process?
Were you married outside the Catholic Church and now find yourself interested in a Church blessing of your marriage? Did a previous marriage prevent you from seeking a Church wedding? Are you thinking of marriage, but unsure about marrying in the Church because one of you had been previously married?

If ANY of these situations apply to you, you are invited to come to an Information Night on Annulments and Convalidations. On Thursday, Sept. 30th at 7 p.m. in Marian Hall, Timothy Ferguson, JCL, canon lawyer and Judge/Assessor from the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Detroit, will speak on the annulment process and also on convalidation of marriages contracted outside the Church. Come for information that may apply to your particular situation. You will learn about what makes for a valid marriage in the eyes of the Church, and some of the factors that might render a marriage invalid. You will learn what’s involved in seeking an annulment, and how to begin the process. You will learn about the annulment application, about witness testimony, about documents required, and about the role of advocates to assist you in the process. You will also learn about convalidation/blessing of marriages contracted outside the Church. No pre-registration for the evening is needed; just come and join us.
