Teens celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation in the fall of their ninth grade year. Adults completing the RCIA process celebrate at the Easter vigil.
Adults desiring Confirmation should contact Debbie Bloomgren in the Faith Formation office and begin the RCIA program in the fall. Teen preparation for this sacrament began when the child’s parent brought them forward for baptism. It continues through the formation received in the home as well as completing first through eighth grade Religious Education. Teens begin working on specific service and enrichment activities in seventh and eighth grade through St. Joseph middle school youth group FLOW (Following the Lord Our Way) They must choose a sponsor who is an active, participating Catholic who will partner with them in this preparation and continue to be a faith partner after confirmation.
Teen candidates are expected to write a letter to the Pastor explaining their desire for Confirmation and also express their understanding of the sacrament, and church teaching, through an interview in the spring of eighth grade. Teens will attend a retreat and celebrate this sacrament in the fall of Ninth Grade.
Parents are expected to take their child to Mass, model the Catholic faith, work on preparation in the home, be involved in what is happening in their child’s religion classes and FLOW (Youth Group) activities, as well as attend parent meetings throughout the year.
